Patrick Kenney, BS, MFT Trainee, CADC II

Primary Therapist

Patrick Kenney holds a bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Cal State University, Channel Islands and is currently credentialed as a Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor (CADC –II, CATC – III).  Patrick is currently working toward his master’s degree in Counseling at Concordia University in Irvine. He will start his Licensed Professional Counselor internship this summer.

Growing up in Malibu, Patrick started his career as a landscape contractor, finding an outlet for his creative side. After gaining success in that industry, he turned his attention toward counseling ten years ago, where he enjoys helping others to clear the hurdles they face in fulfilling their potential.  Because of his own history with substance abuse and the mindset that accompanies it, Patrick brings significant experience and ability to assist others attempting to find “escape velocity” from the futility of addiction.

Patrick works from the position that people with addictions have formed toxic (abusive) relationships with the substances and that the “antidote” for these harmful relationships are healthy ones.  His great passion is seeing people reinvent themselves and rewrite their stories so that addiction becomes the personal battle that demonstrates their heroism rather than their downfall.  Because he knows the power of mindset and narrative, much of his focus is on helping clients find an authentic new story where peace of mind, gratitude, and joy are the main characters.

Patrick believes the celebration of life should be a daily activity and he is always on the lookout for new experiences that can provoke awe and wonder. He loves travel, sport-fishing, and cooking with exotic ingredients.
