Highly Customized World-Class Treatment
Beach House Treatment Center provides recovery treatment for sex addictions. A number of compulsive, sex-related behaviors we treat include, frequent affairs, obsessive pornography use, compulsive masturbation, voyeurism, exhibitionism, frequent engagement in dangerous sexual behavior, and recurrent acting out through sex when under the influence of a substance. Often times sex addiction is co-occurring with other substance or process addictions such as, gambling, love/relationships, and food.
The topic of sex addiction is often one of debate. The World Health Organization recognizes the mental health diagnosis of “Compulsive Sexual Behavior Disorder” on its International Classification of Disease. It is under this classification which we address and treat sex addiction and more directly, the compulsive, frequent sexual behaviors that have come to impact one’s relationships and employment, behaviors which individuals feel they have the inability to control. Research shows that just like substance abuse, process addictions effect the brain and our motivation and reward centers are impacted from the repetitive, compulsive behaviors that are present.
Sex Addiction treatment at Beach House is done through a trauma-informed approach in which we address underlying trauma in individual and group therapy while addressing the presenting behaviors surrounding sex. Our Certified Sex Addiction Therapist (CSAT) implements the use of psychological testing assessments to confirm the presence of the process addiction, the severity, and current high-risk behaviors surrounding the addiction and how these are exhibited in the individual. Through the use of a task model and Dr. Patrick Carnes’ Facing the Shadow, the behaviors are addressed systemically in a residential level of care.
Like all addictions, while sex addiction deeply impacts the diagnosed individual, it also effects on loved ones and therefore family and couples therapy is often indicated and integrated in as appropriate.

SEX ADDICTION TREATMENT
At the time of admission, each client is given a thorough medical examination to identify any medical conditions or other health risks in addition to their addiction and/or co-occurring mental health issues.
Our admissions team compiles each client’s medical and prior mental health treatment histories for review by our team. Blood and urine samples are drawn to provide indicators of current bodily functioning and to determine the exact levels of all substances currently in the client’s system. The client’s detox and stabilization processes are overseen by one of our internists who specialize in addiction medicine.
Diagnostic Assessment (DA)*
Upon completion of detox and stabilization, each client undergoes a thorough Diagnostic Assessment. The purpose of the assessment is to determine a complete set of precise diagnoses for all of the client’s medical, psychiatric, clinical and behavioral issues that have contributed to their admission for treatment. The assessment team, led by our Executive Director includes:
- Internal Medicine / Addiction Medicine Specialist – conducts an initial physical, gathers the client’s medical history and oversees the client’s detox and stabilization
- Psychiatrist – conducts a psychiatric evaluation, a review if medication history and compiles the client’s psychiatric history to determine brain health and functioning. When indicated, the psychiatrist will also prescribe and monitor psychotropic medications during the client’s stay in treatment.
- Other Specialists (as indicated) – during the course of the evaluation other medical, psychiatric and clinical issues may become apparent. In these cases, additional specialists may be consulted, and neuro-psych testing may be recommended.
Upon completion of the DA, the Executive Director determines the appropriate treatment team members for each client and works with them to develop a customized treatment plan.
*Clients may request and Intensive Diagnostic Assessment (IDA) which include mores extensive psychological testing and a forensic psychological assessment performed by a psychologist. Speak with the admissions team for more details.

Customized Sex Addiction Treatment Plans
At Beach House Treatment Centers, we believe that each client brings a unique life experience, pattern of substance use, mental health issue, process addictions and treatment history when they admit for treatment. It is essential that the full array of each client’s underlying issues be factored into their diagnoses to achieve a successful treatment outcome. To accomplish that we develop a highly customized treatment plan for each client to all the client’s issues and assist them in achieving their recovery goals.
We employ a psychodynamic approach to providing care. Though group therapy sessions are an important component of our Concierge Program, given the underlying trauma most clients have experienced prior to treatment, we place a greater emphasis on individual therapy. Individuals sessions provide the privacy and intimacy that often make is easier for clients to share with their therapist and make progress in treatment. Concierge clients see their individual therapists (primary, family or specialty therapists) and their case managers multiple times each week. Licensed therapists are at the facility seven days a week do deal with any client issues as they arise. Efficient scheduling allows clients to go to a private health club daily, to do therapy sessions outdoors or on the beach and for clients to attend to their personal grooming preferences and shopping needs.

Dietary Wellness Program
Our team of professional chefs serve gourmet and globally inspired meals daily. Our passion at Beach House is to address your wellness and recovery journey through every aspect of your treatment experience, including the food we offer to our residents. Our Dietary Wellness Program is focused on brain health and is designed to help heal and rejuvenate both the body and the brain during the detoxification and early recovery phase. At Beach House we focus on incorporating essential micronutrients, vitamin-rich foods, and the highest quality, locally sourced ingredients. We are committed to removing the toxic GMO ingredients found in the standard, American diet (wheat, corn, soy, etc.), while implementing a low-glycemic and healthy fat diet for increased brain health.
Our Dietary Wellness Program enhances recovery by focusing on brain health. Our menus are curated to provide an increase in Omega 3s by including fresh seafood, grass fed meat, and creatively incorporating nuts, seeds, and other Omega 3 rich foods. By increasing the intake of Omega 3s, we greatly reduce the inflammatory Omega 6 fat sources which have been shown to block the uptake of healthy Omega 3s. At Beach House we have chosen not to use soybean, vegetable, canola, and corn oils and instead incorporate the use of avocado, olive, and coconut oil in our cooking. In addition to balancing this Omega 3 to Omega 6 ratio, our talented chefs work with a wide array of seasonal produce, serving unique vegetable dishes and fresh, beautiful salad options at every meal. This ensures that our diet provides an abundance of naturally sourced vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, and phytonutrients that are so crucial in the healing of our brains and bodies.
At Beach House we invite our residents to have a different relationship with the food they eat; through cooking classes with our chefs, to addressing individualized dietary needs, to nutrition consultations with Registered Dietitian. This way of eating and nurturing a healthy relationship with food is not only pleasurable for our residents but, has been clinically proven to restore balance in the body, decrease post-acute withdraws, and alleviate cravings. We work from a model which acknowledges the power of the food we eat in promoting internal healing, lowering stress, reducing depression and anxiety, and increasing joy.
